I've been wanting to run this route for some time and finally got the opportunity on Sat 23 Sept, the route is known to be challenging but with great long single track sections through varied terrain.

As it is not circular, I had to get an Uber from the Delicia Rd finish to the start at Baroon Pocket Dam, it was a long wait for the Uber to arrive so be prepared for this.

I started from Barron Pocket dam just after 1pm with all the gear and nutrition I needed for the run, I carried a water filter to collect water from tanks along the way and a Zoleo satellite messenger/tracker for safety.

The first section to the Flaxton Walkers Camp is slow going until the road section after Kondalilla Falls with a few stairs to climb, the scenery is stunning though passing through lush rainforest.

Flaxton walkers camp had a tank with water to filter.

The next section to Ubajee is a mixture of single track with a big climb early on, a bit of road again and then flowing single track and forest trails. I got through Ubajee (tank water) before dark, at the start of the loop after the descent I went left to do a clockwise loop as per the QPWS directions for the official walk.

The loop was run in the dark along single trails, it was slower than I expected with plenty of climbs and descents and rocky/rooty trails underfoot requiring constant attention so as not to stumble and fall.

After the loop and climb back to Ubajee where I filtered a bit more water the last 4.5ish km to the finish was along familiar trails (this section is done in both directions).

Back at the car in just over 8h38, a bit over target which I put down to the slower running at night and stopping to admire the scenery!

Overall a great run that I'd definitely recommend.
