Stephen Messur and I set out on the Onondaga Trail a little after 6 am on Saturday, January 7, 2022. The journey was made possible due to Stuart Messur’s generous and unselfish offer to drop us off at the trail and pick us up at the finish…should we make it. Brimming with a cocktail of confidence, swagger and adrenaline, Steve and I plunged into the cool dark winter morning with one goal in mind. Nothing was going to stop us! With our headlamps equipped, we made quick progress before sunrise stopping only to pay respect at a small cemetery along the trail. RIP to the deceased. We continued on our adventure absorbing with great appreciation the beautiful nature scenery surrounding us, which was quickly complimented with a light snowfall making for an even more truly majestic experience. Although there was some pain, fatigue, and cramping experienced along the way, nothing would stop our unwavering dedication and determination to finish! Muddy trails, private property, and cow fields in the cold, dark, snowy night were simply obstacles that were welcomed with a positive attitude and conquered on our way to success. Steve and I set out the morning of January 7, 2022 with one goal: to obtain the FKT on the Onondaga Trail. 13 hours, 28 minutes and 42 seconds after our journey began, we found ourselves at the end of the trail. We did it! The boys took a moment to hug in celebration as they awaited Stuart Messur, who came bearing Mickey D’s and their ride home.
