The team started our run from the elm ridge parking lot. We let out a few yelps and pump up howls at the road/trail intersection start line. We counted down from 10 to signify the beginning and were off at 6:55 a.m. sharp. It was cool at the start but weather was predicted to be very hot and humid early on in the day. In the first few miles leading up to Windham excitement was high, legs felt great and conversions flowing. Made it to the top of Windham in 41:30 according to the strava segment. We cruised the downhill’s quickly while maintaining a controlled power hike on the ups. Once we hit Stoppel Point, being exposed for the first time in a while, the heat and humidity set in. Came through the Escarpment race finish in 3:30 dying for water and totally out. Josh and I ran over to the spigot near North Lake, chugged a couple bottles and scurried back to the trail totally refilled and continued on with Frank. The last 4.5 miles were new for us and had multiple intersections. Trusty Frank had the gpx file loaded into the watch for successful navigation. We think in optimal trail conditions and weather someone could run around the 3:40 mark.
