Starting from the Tissington Trail car park in Ashbourne, I set off through Ashbourne Tunnel and off along the trail. I wasn't familiar with the trail, but knew it was a gradual uphill on the way out and downhill on the way back. The plan, therefore, was to take it steady on the way out and try to push a bit harder on the way back. I felt good as I passed through the various trail access points en route, including the old signal box at Hartington. The surrounding landscape became increasingly more hilly as I got nearer to my turn-round point, but the trail itself made for lovely running. After a while I ran through a cutting, past the junction with the High Peak Trail and was then at Parsley Hay, the turn-round point. It was then, literally, downhill all the way back. Plus the breeze was in my back and the bottles in my hydration vest were getting lighter as I was drinking my fluid! I was still feeling good, and was able to pick up my pace all the way back to Ashbourne.
