I ran the Twins-Bonds Traverse on Saturday September 27th in an Unsupported fashion, receiving no assistance from anyone else from start to finish. I must say a big ‘thank you’ to Amber Constant for the ride from Lincoln Woods to North Twin Trail so I could start this though.
Legs weren’t there yesterday but they gave it a solid effort before (and after) I slipped off a rock about halfway through and landed with my ankle perpendicular to where it should be. I’ve done enough damage to the ol’ kanks over the years of soccer that after a half mile of whimpers and hobbling it slowly worked its way back to life. There were a number of times following this that I considered stopping and just enjoying one of the best days in these mountains, but that wasn’t the plan and I was determined to at least finish this up under 4 hours despite not hitting my goal time. Saw a number of happy hikers (hey Chase!), and other than running into a large group on the shoulder of Bondcliff that held things up slightly, everyone was relatively happy to allow me through without giving up too much pace or waiting too long to pass. Thankful to have avoided any bad falls with the recent rain and piles of leaves along the trail, and managed to push a couple of faster miles towards the end on the railroad tie flats to round this one out.
I’ll be back for this again at some point… other things to focus on first.
