I started at 8:37 AM at Sacramento Boulevard and Grand Avenue, heading south. I carried a vest with a two-liter bladder of water, two sixteen-ounce water bottles of Gatorade Endurance, three salted caramel GUs, four mango Gatorade Endurance gels, one canister of Lays Stax, 2 Nature's Bakery Blueberry Fig Bars, and an extra single-serve packet of Gatorade Endurance powder. I ran solo until about mile 21 on Midway Plaisance when my buddy Josh Sauvageau met me on his bike with an extra water bottle and sugar-free Gatorade. He rode next to me the rest of the run.
One piece of advice for anyone who attempts this run in the future: wear comfortable cushioned shoes. 39.43 miles is a lot to run on pavement.
