Looked like an incredibly scenic route which adds a summit of the Grand to a day of running, so I used it as a long run in a buildup for a hundred miler I am registered for. Kevin was happy to join, so we were able to organize a car shuttle. If anyone wants to bag an easy FKT, I am sure it will not be too hard to take time off this one since we were not trying to race it or anything. Just a good, consistent effort. The Owens Spalding on the Grand was covered in ice and we were onsighting this whole thing, including the route up the Grand, so there is plenty time to shave off in better conditions and if route finding is more dialed.
Overall, which packs a lot of elevation gain. My watch said we gained 12,313 feet and lost over 13,000 feet! One thing that seemed a bit contrived about the route, is that when you get down from the Grand, you take the Valley Trail out and exit into a parking lot. But instead of stopping there, you run along the road and then have another 5 or so mile stretch to String Lake TH parking. It was totally a bonus to run some flat miles as a training stimulus, and running by Jenny Lake is pretty, just a bit weird to reach a parking lot and not stop there.
