I am currently training for Western States, and needed a race simulation this weekend. I have done the one way a number of times, but have been eyeing the out and back for the distance. It's a fun course with varied terrain and decent climbs. I thought I could get closer to 5 hrs, but unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate. It was pretty much torrential rain for the entire run except for the last 45 minutes. The footing was treacherous in some sections, along with several straight up creek crossings. There was a section of park where the baseball field was so flooded, there were ducks swimming in the pond. I carried everything with me, 4L of fluid a precision gel, pizza, and 4 gels. I think I could cut close to an hour off my time, and I'm fairly someone else could on a drier day.
