On 6/27/2020, starting around 6:45 AM, I completed the Des Plaines River Trail- Lake County Section FKT (North to South). The temperature reached the 90s and the humidity varied between 70-90% throughout the morning. I was supported by two of my best friends, Kevin Boyle and Brent Rische, who rode their bikes alongside me and carried my water and gels. Essentially, we broke the route up into 10 segments, taking a quick break every 3 miles to hydrate and refuel. I also received some more water around mile 27 from Brent Rische's parents, who surprised us on the trail. The attempt went according to plan until around mile 25 or so, when the heat and humidity started to break me. The last 6 miles were a mixture of walking and running. I had only been training for a few weeks, so my goal time was around 4 hours 30 minutes given my current fitness. All in all, I am happy to have the Fastest Known Time on this route, as this is arguably the most popular running trail in all of Lake County. If I attempt this route again, I will probably try for the fall, as cooler temperatures will allow for a much faster time.
