Being one of my local parks I have been on Hook innumerous times. I have thought about doing this FKT for a few years but just never had the right combination of conditions, time and legs. On this day the conditions were good though it did rain a little before so the rocks were a little wet. I needed a short hard effort so the time had come to go for it. I was relatively confident I could get the record but this is a harder effort then one would expect. Even though I've done it so so many times the northern section always just goes on and on (still haven't figured out how many little uphills there are - the next one is always the last but nope there is always another!)
This was a hard hard effort, really had to work for this one. Legs took a while to warm up and my climbing legs were not great. But overall it went fine no hiccups besides shoelaces coming undone.
Even though I had the record I pushed extra hard on the bike path to go below 1:30 luckily there was a little tail wind as opposed to headwind.
Couldn't eat regular trail food so it was gooey jellies and chocolate chips for this one. Took about 150ml water mostly just to get the food down.
