In Portugal on vacation so of course, I got on FKT and looked for a route around the area I'm staying. Found this gem that wasn't 5 miles from the house, so I figured it would be the perfect fun shorter push to make while here. I got out Monday 7/11 on a long run from the door here to scout it out, then went back Wednesday 7/13 driving to the start to give it a go. It was 90° before the humidity and the full route is just baking in the sun with next to no shade, a slight breeze on top of the cliffs was great but every wind protected uphill or downhill felt like I was running in a sauna. Probably the closest to heat stroke I've ever been, brought 1.5 liters of water, drank about 250 ML, and sprayed the rest of the tailwind water all over me... felt nasty after. Overall it was a fun run and a good push but this could go much faster in cooler conditions, and someone whos actually a fast short-distance runner on the right day without tourists I'm sure could hold sub-7s. But that's not me, and it wasn't the day.
Overall, this was an excuse to run in a beautiful area and push a bit harder than regular. Grateful for FKT and this community, if you find yourself in this area I absolutely reccomend taking a stroll through the Seven Hanging Valley route.
