Unsupported FKT attempt. Carried all my water and nutrition.
What an adventure. The trail was deceptively hard.
First time venturing out into the unknown in Sweden. I had no idea what to expect from the terrain, trail conditions, whether there was all trail, road, or what. A few locals thoroughly warned me about what I was headed into.
The first 10k was relatively clear and maintained, as was the final 10k. Tons of exposed running in the full sun. Everything in between was no mans land. Bulldozer/logging equipment tracks, sections with no visible trail except blazes, tall grass you couldn’t tell where the rocks were, soft moss/ground cover that was like running on sponges, soft spots I fell thru up to my calves in mud every few steps, single track so narrow you had to put one foot in front of the other, half a dozen different types of wooden decking above the trail, bushwhacking, and a few rocky technical miles. Roots everywhere. All in all, the trail was murder on the lower legs, ankle stabilizers, and feet.
Came across shelters 4 or 5 times along the adventure, 2 had an outhouse. There were a handful of spots I might have considered refilling my water, but I’m glad I carried it all with me. More recon required in order to rely on filling up along the trail.
**Using Garmin LiveTrack + photos w/ GPS ate up my phone battery, so I had it plugged in in a dry bag after ~22mi. No pictures the last 2hrs until the finish. Would bring a longer cable next time.
