At 7:37 am we, Zach and Zac, started at the Smoke & Davey trailhead and ran south to the Cabin Fever trailhead. It was cloudy, the temperature was in the low 40's, there was a persistent mist, but a strong wind from the north aided us. We were alone the entire time and carried everything (gel and water) with us. The topics of conversation were wide-ranging including Zach's recent two-day ultra, Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, the wisdom of attempting an FKT two weeks after an ultra, Zac's recent marathon, politics, family, work, coaching children's basketball, running shoes, $15 running shorts from Academy Sports, high school sports, hunting, current weather conditions, rational defenses of the Christian faith, building projects, weight loss, erosion along the shoreline, the sticks that Zac had planted along the shoreline with his daughter 6 months earlier (as a defense against the British) that were still standing, sore muscles, why it wouldn't be a good idea to celebrate by jumping into the lake, and navigating using the bread-crumb map on Zac's watch. This was the first FKT for either of us and a good time was had by all. We celebrated by vigorously shaking and opening bottles of pop. Zach drank "dewski" and Zac drank Dr. Pepper. It was sticky but worth it.

Lord willing, we plan to lower the time in the future.
