In brief: Based in The Lake District, England, the circuit, taking in 23 Wainwright peaks in a continuous loop from (and back to) the Elterwater Hostel, was originally conceived as a shorter, possibly more achievable, homage to Paul Tierney’s record-breaking Wainwright round in 2019. Using the map of Paul’s Wainwrights’ route (devised by Steve Birkinshaw, the previous record holder), and placing the hostel at the centre, a circular route was planned which could be done in a day, and be back in time for tea.
This is a serious fell running challenge with much of the route off-piste, and incorporating some mammoth ascents and descents on rugged, technical terrain.
