Description

Alta Via of the Dolomites n. 1 "la classica"
From Lake Braies in South Tyrol to Belluno in Veneto

The Alta Via delle Dolomiti goes from Lake Braies in South Tyrol to Belluno in the Veneto and is defined as the "classic" as it is the first of the 10 Dolomites High Routes to be detected and described.
The route in stages leads the hiker along the groups of the eastern Dolomites, from north to south. During the entire excursion, with an altitude profile between 1500-2800 meters, you can enjoy a spectacular view of some of the most impressive peaks of the Dolomites such as: the Santa Croce, Fanes, the Tofane, the Marmolada glacier, the Monte Civetta, Monte Pelmo to Moiazza and Schiara.

Fifteen shelters can be visited along the way. The best time to travel is between the end of June and September, depending on the snow conditions. Three large Dolomite passes (Passo Falzarego, Passo Staulanza, Passo Duran) are passed. The main route moves at an average altitude of 2000 m so high alpine conditions are to be expected.
