Route: Baruther Linie

The Regional Hiking Trail between Blankenfelde and Baruth follows the motto: “Right nearby, out in nature”. On this route, hikers explore the area between the Teltow plateau and the Baruth glacial valley. The varied Ice Age landscape is clearly visible along the way. Meltwater from the Weichselian glaciation formed the glacial valley. The shimmering beauty of the Mark Brandenburg sand stretches northward across once wind-blown dune areas, pine-covered sand plains, and terminal moraines. The plant and animal life has developed during the current warm period. Snipe, cranes, and even white-tailed eagles can be seen circling in the sky. Otters and kingfishers also thrive in this hiking area, where ditches, lakes, and small watercourses lined with alder and ash forests offer excellent habitats. Protected species include bats, smooth snakes, and the stag beetle.

Getting there:

• From Berlin Friedrichstraße via the S2 line to Blankenfelde (S) Blankenfelde-Mahlow

• From Berlin Central Station (Hbf) with the U22 to Brandenburger Tor, then with the S2 to Blankenfelde (S) Blankenfelde-Mahlow

• Alternatively, take the RE 5 from Berlin Hbf to Blankenfelde (TF) or the RE 7 from central Berlin to Blankenfelde (TF)

Return:

• From Baruth/Mark with the RE5 to Berlin Hbf (lower level)

Route:
The hiking trail follows the RE 5 railway line (up to Wünsdorf Waldstadt also the RE 7) and is easily accessible via eight train stations, allowing it to be hiked in sections. Stations along the "Baruth Line": Blankenfelde, Rangsdorf, Dabendorf, Zossen, Waldstadt, Neuhof, and Baruth/Mark (RE 5).

Attractions:
Tasty local cuisine is available in all five municipalities. Cozy holiday apartments and small hotels offer overnight accommodations for starting the next stage the following day. Noteworthy churches—from Classical to Romanesque styles—charming village centers, as well as exhibitions in galleries and museums, provide cultural enrichment.

Trail Surface / Route Conditions:
The Baruth Line mostly runs along field and forest paths. Short segments are paved or surfaced with concrete slabs.
