Description

Mile by mile this is the hardest route in Northeast PA.

Out and back mountain run under the main power line on the ridge of Bell Mountain In Dickson City in Northeast Pennsylvania. The route features exposed technical terrain including large and loose rock and gravel as well as steep short hills. The route has been described as a "roller coaster" because of the relentless climbs and descents. Parking can be found inside St. Michaels cemetery on W Mountain Rd. GPS coordinates are 41.492966,-75.620385. From there you can walk or run to the base of the route shortly up W Mountain Rd. The route starts as soon as you cross the blacktop into the grass or dirt trail and begin your climb up the Death Hill. You proceed the roughly 2.8 miles until you reach a cliff overlook at the end of the mountain. You can turn around as soon as you see Interstate 81. Proceed back. The route ends after you descend the Death Hill and cross the plane of the blacktop on W Mountain Rd where you started. The power line is wide open with multiple options including staying on the gravel road or going off-trail. That is up to the runner to decide what would be faster.
