The Bellarine Rail Trail commences at South Geelong Station on the northern side (closest to Town Centre). It has been upgraded following the railway line duplication works that occurred in Geelong in 2023-2024. The rail trail runs parallel to the train line in an easterly direction along Amphlett Way and Carr St, before crossing Breakwater Road and continuing along the shared off-road dedicated rail trail path. The rail trail cross Boundary Road and then continues to traverse easterly towards Leopold.
The rail trail crosses Curlewis Road and Portarlington Road before making its way to Drysdale Station. Drysdale station is a terminus of the still functioning railway line which hosts the Seaside Explorer, Swan Bay Express, Blues Train, and The Q train (fine dining). The rail trail passes through Drysdale before turning in a southerly arc towards former station Mannerim, which is located in a rustic farmland area of the Bellarine Peninsula and Suma Park station, which is adjacent to a winery of the same name.
The rail trail then crosses the Port-Queenscliff Road, and runs adjacent to Swan Bay, before turning left towards Queenscliff station.
