A multi-sport test-piece that starts and ends at the iconic "Broken Top Bottle Shop" via the summit of the Broken Top mountain. The only rules are that you must ride the Mrazek singletrack and the Met-Win (trail 99) to approach and descent from the wilderness boundary. The mountain itself can be climbed via any route, although we recommend the classic NW ridge. Near the summit is a 15' block that requires some 4th/easy 5th class scrambling.
FKTs can be recorded for both the entire route (up and down), as well as for just the ascent from the bottle shop to the summit.
Both elements of this route are ultra-classic in the central Oregon area, but combined require the skills of both an XC endurance rider and a competent mountain runner. The final ridge gains 2600' in 1.6 miles, and the last 50' are the toughest.
This route was created by two local NW women as a training day, and has seen several attempts and a recent dedicated effort to do is with speed in mind.
It's about 50k each way, 100k route trip, all told.
