Description

Buffalo Mountain is a well-traveled peak, dominating the view for westbound drivers on I-70 as they exit the Eisenhower Tunnel. This is a fairly steep and technical ~ 5.34 mile trail (round trip) ascending & descending Buffalo Mountain in the White River National Forest near Silverthorne, Colorado. The trail can be broken down into three sections, a climb through dense pine forest, a steep climb across a massive boulder field, and a final climb across the open tundra. The route ascends approximately 3,000 ft to Buffalo's north summit at 12,777ft. Buffalo Mountain is a wonderful vantage point to take in the Gore's many jagged peaks. On a clear day, you can see the Gore Range, the Tenmile Range, and the Front Range.
