Description

Camino Lituano is a modern pilgrimage route across Lithuania, part of the European network of St. James’s Ways (Camino de Santiago). Founded in 2016, it runs north to south through the whole country, from Žagarė near the Latvian border to Seinai (Sejny) just across the Polish border. There it connects with the Camino Polaco.

Distance: about 501 km (official figure 500.8 km).

Start: Žagarė, at the official start point of stage 1 (Žagarė – Buivydžiai).
Finish: Seinai (Sejny), Poland, at the official end point of stage 21 (Lazdijai – Seinai).

Route: the main line of all 21 official Camino Lituano stages, followed in order: Žagarė – Buivydžiai – Gataučiai – Rusliai – Pakruojis – Rozalimas – Burbiškis – Vadaktai – Paberžė – Kėdainiai – Panevėžiukas – Biliūnai – Kaunas – Pažaislis – Daukšiagirė – Prienai – Punia – Alytus – Miroslavas – Meteliai – Lazdijai – Seinai. The marked alternative routes on stages 10, 18 and 19 are not part of this route. Temporary official detours (for example, around bridge repairs) may be used where the main line is closed.

The route is waymarked with yellow arrows and blue St. James scallop shells. It follows mostly gravel and asphalt country roads, forest tracks and town streets through low, rolling terrain, and passes many towns, villages, churches and manor houses. Resupply is available regularly, though some stretches go 30+ km without a shop.

GPX: made from the official stage files published by Camino Lituano and merged into one continuous track.
