Description

Centennial Peak is the sixth highest peak in the La Platas, and is a popular route to run because of an easy class 1-2 trail that leads right to the top. From the top, runners have the most unencumbered view possible of Hesperus, one of the four Navajo holy mountains. The normal trailhead for Centennial is Sharktooth, but this is accessed from Cortez and Mancos from the east. Any runner from the larger population center of Durango, Colorado would access Centennial from La Plata Canyon or Junction Creek, and go through Kennebec Pass. Kennebec Pass is well known because it's the last alpine pass before the Colorado Trail makes its final descent into Durango.
