Description

An approx. 40 km drive (very challenging in rainy season - 4WD vehicle highly recommended, check road situation before leaving) leads North-West from San Antonio de los Cobres. The trail head is directly at RN 40. With a high car / 4WD you can drive up a bit further.

Otherwise the tour starts at RN 40 and leads up an old mining road in several switch backs. At approx. 5200 m you leave the road and continue a trail towards the summit. The slopes are now getting steeper until you reach a last plateu before the summit end spurt. The summit is 5486 m high.

On the way down one can cut trail on a steeper direct version to speed the descent up. until reaching the 4WD road again and back to RN40.

The tour is very beautiful, the views of the Andean Range and the surrounding salt lakes impressive. It's a non technical route.
