Description

Cerro Vicuñas is a 6000m peak in the Puna de Atacama Region in Chile. It is a great non-technical peak and perfect for acclimitization and training for the higher summits in the area.

Take a 4x4 vehicle up the quebrada off of the road towards Ojos to about 4900m (or you can hike from the road). From there, cut up onto the ridge and follow it to a false summit where you then downclimb to a beautiful saddle and snow bowl below the true summit. From there, you can retrace your steps to the saddle and descend a scree field into a parallel valley which brings you back to the start much quicker. A spectacular and seldom visited peak with fantastic views of Ojos and the other 6000ers.
