The route begins at Monks Cowl, Maloti Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site.
The route goes via the Verkykerskop Path to Blind Man's Corner and round to Keiths Bushcamps via Hlatikulu Nek. From here use Gray's Pass to summit the escarpment. Carry on to tag Champagne Castle summit, the highest point in the area and one of the highest in the Drakensberg sitting at 3,377m.
After the summit, descend via the infamous Ships Prow Pass using the Northern fork (Cathkin Mountain Pass). Once at the bottom, use the contour path to make your way back to Blind Man's Corner, and from there descend via Keartlands Pass back to the Monks Cowl car park. The direction of the loops may be reversed at the athlete's discretion.
The timer starts and stops when you are at the EKZN mountain register office.
