Start/Finish: Château Tongariro, Whakapapa
- Château → Ruapehu Summit (Tahurangi, 2,797m) — up via the ski field to the highest point on the North Island
- Tahurangi → Te Heu Heu (2,755m) — traverse along the Ruapehu crater rim to the second peak, significant both geographically and culturally as the peak named after the chief whose gift of this land created New Zealand's first national park
- Ruapehu → Ngauruhoe (2,291m) — descend Ruapehu, traverse toward the Tongariro Northern Circuit, then climb the iconic cone — steep scree to the crater rim
- Ngauruhoe → Tongariro (1,967m) — drop off Ngauruhoe, cross South Crater, climb to Red Crater and the Tongariro summit
- Tongariro → Château — return via the Northern Circuit track back to Whakapapa
So four summits effectively — Tahurangi, Te Heu Heu, Ngauruhoe, Tongariro — all in one unsupported push.
