Description

Chimborazo is the highest mountain in Ecuador, with a altitude of 6263 meters.

Despite not being the tallest mountain in the Andes or on Earth, its summit holds the distinction of being the farthest point on Earth's surface from the Earth's center, due to its location along the planet's equatorial bulge

The Chimborazo normal route consists to a climb that mixes a rocky trail section and a glacial trail section. The climb starts from the Carrel Hut, which serves as the base camp for Chimborazo. El castillo Ridge Route is a longer way to climb the mountain, but is more safer than the El corridor Route by Whymper Hut (direct route). El Castillo pass by a Ridge that involves navigating through moraines and rocky slopes, but protects from mountain rockfalls. Indeed, with the retreat of the Chimborazo's glacier, the risks of rockfalls are much higher by the direct ascent of El Corridor Route. For this reason, it is safer to pass by El Castillo Ridge Route. At 5300m, a higher camp (Campamiento Arista for safety)

After High camp, it is a mountaineering expedition that requires mountaineering knowledge. Many crevasses are present and needed than the climbers are roped together, with a slope angle between 40-50 degrees. The route becomes steeper as they ascend towards the Veintemilla summit ridge (62. After, the final push leads to the Whymper summit (6269m).

It's important to note that Chimborazo's conditions can be unpredictable, and climbers should be well-prepared with proper gear, acclimatization, and experience in alpine environments. As with any high-altitude climb, safety should be the top priority. Additionally, it's advisable to hire a certified guide or join a guided expedition for this challenging ascent.
