Route: The Citadel (Colorado 13er)

The Citadel from Herman Gulch TH. The Citadel is a 13er that can be accessed from a few different ways. This route is from the popular Herman Gulch TH. Park at Herman Gulch Th and ascend toward the Herman Gulch Lake. Up to this point, it is a very easy and popular trail to follow. You will see many people. Once you get to the lake continue towards the obvious ridgeline and gain access to the saddle. You will go through series of bushes but there is a trail if you look very hard. Once you get up to the saddle, follow the ridgeline and traverse around the back of the mountain. Here there are many ways to attain the summit. You will find a gully to climb up with very loose rock and a few class 4 moves. Continue straight up to the highest point. The summit is actually tricky to find but it is marked on the map.
