Description

Linking up the East Highland Way long distance walking route, starting in Fort William on the West Coast of Scotland, with the Speyside Way long distance walking route, from Aviemore to Buckie, and then continuing along the coast to the tip of the North East Coast in Scotland, giving a total of 200 miles.

The East Highland Way - Fort William to Aviemore - 82 Miles - 132 KM
The East Highland Way is a new long distance walk that connects Fort William, outdoor capital of the UK, with the ski and mountain resort of Aviemore. In doing so, it also connects Scotland's existing long distance walks: the West Highland Way & Great Glen Way, to the Speyside Way in the north east. The contrast in natural habitats along the route imbues the East Highland Way with a distinctive character. The journey passes seamlessly through enchanting broadleaf forests, loch-side trails and quiet mountain wilderness. It skirts unspoilt marshlands and also explores the last remnants of the ancient Caledonian forests of Inshriach.

The Speyside Way - Aviemore to Buckie - 65 Miles - 106 KM

The Speyside Way is one of four official Long Distance Routes in Scotland (the others are the West Highland Way, the Southern Upland Way and the Great Glen Way). It was first opened in 1981, to run from Spey Bay to Ballindalloch, with a spur to Tomintoul being added in 1990. A northern extension from Spey Bay to Buckie followed in 1999, with the route being further extended from Ballindalloch to Aviemore in April 2000. The route now links the Moray coast with the edge of the Grampian Mountains, generally following the valley of the River Spey.

Buckie to Fraserburgh - 53 Miles - 85 KM

Following the coast from Buckie to the finishing point at the Lighthouse In Fraserburgh, on the tip of the North East Coast, this section is a mix of road, trail and path.
