The Crowsnest Low Five is inspired by the Crowsnest High Five route. The Low Five is meant to provide an opportunity for the non-scramblers to have a challenge to complete in the Crowsnest Pass area.
The route is a loop that connects 5 accessible mountain summits for a scenic tour of the Crowsnest Pass region of the Canadian Rocky Mountains:
-Pass Powder Keg Mountain (PPK) - 1595 m
-Saddle Mountain (aka Big Bear Trail) - 1795 m
-Saskatoon Mountain (Sasky) - 1810 m
-Turtle Mountain (False Summit) - 2090 m
-Bluff Mountain - 2,145m
Each summit offers a unique experience for runners. These trails are regularly used individually in the area for training and events. The inclusion of Bluff Mountain is intentional as it forms the most challenging peak for the Low Five and the easiest peak for the High Five.
A successful Low Five attempt will start and finish at the same location, summiting all 5 mountains in one activity. Athletes may connect the peaks in any order they choose, so long as they reach the summit of each. Bluff Mountain is the only peak with a summit register. The others are low enough that they don't warrant a register; therefore, athletes will need to use the GPX file as verification of the location. The summits are quite obvious (There is a monkey statue at the top of PPK, a rock cairn on Sasky, a bench on Saddle (Big Bear Trail).
The GPX file provided is one possible route created by Lisette Caissie and Kyle Ross (with additional assistance from Adam Lee, Hugo Gravel, and Marielle De Bellefeuille) utilizing a mix of single-track trails, community path trails, and public roadways.
NOTICE:
The Crowsnest Low Five is a challenging route that requires some preparation, but can be accomplished almost year-round.
