The Dän Zhùr (Donjek) Route is the longest and most difficult route in Kluane National Park. The route involves traversing open tundra, fording dozens of creek crossings, and travelling over three mountain passes. The route is entirely unmarked and navigation is challenging. The route is approximately 110 km measured from highway to highway, depending on navigation and has about 3300m of gross elevation gain.
This route provides spectacular views of the Burwash Uplands and once over Hoge pass, views deep into the St Elias Range. The main feature of the route is the terminus of the Donjek Glacier which is visible from approximately km's 40-60.
Wildlife including caribou, sheep and grizzly bears are plentiful along the route so please be prepared for all sorts of encounters
Times are measured starting at the highway at the Duke River trail head and ending at the highway at Copper Joe Creek.
The official route description can be found at the following link but note that it grossly under estimates the total elevation gain on the route.
