Description

Summit & Circum:  Similar to a Mt Hood/Timberline, a Mt St Helens/Loowit, or a Rainier/Wonderland, this route starts from the PCT Trailhead at Summit Lake and climbs to the summit of Diamond Peak then circles the volcano following trails, in this case going counterclockwise on the Pacific Crest Trail, Mount Yoran Trail, Vivian Lake Trail, Diamond Peak Tie Trail, Diamond Peak Trail, and Rockpile Trail which rejoins the PCT 3 miles from the start/end at Emigrant Pass/Summit Lake. *Starting point is best reached from the Oakridge or Diamond Lake side and not from the Crescent Lake side. This route passes dozens of year-round lakes and tarns. Streams and creeks which are shown on maps however may be dry at anytime of year. All junctions are signed and extensive trailwork was completed in 2021 which left this loop free of deadfall. This route explores the Diamond Peak Wilderness area. Wilderness permits are required and are available for free at the trailhead.
