Description

Donaho Peak lies in the middle of the Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve, the largest in America. The main visitor hub in the park is the Kennicott Valley, which Donaho commands the center of, lying between the Kennicott and Root Glaciers.

The first route record was established by a guide, and starts and finishes at the Kennicott Wilderness Guides office. It follows the Root Glacier Trail, then crosses the glacier, skirts a large lake lying at the foot of Donaho, then climbs the southern face to the western peak. The trail disappears at the base of the mountain, though the (lookers) left ridge is a recommended ascent. Depending on the time of year, a large amount of snow can be present, which may require ice axes to be descended safely.
