The Edelmann-Ringweg is a 32 km circular trail around Kulmbach, offering a great mix of flowing forest trails, open countryside, small villages and panoramic views.
What makes it particularly special for trail runners is the variety. The route combines around 640 metres of elevation gain with long runnable sections, short climbs and plenty of changes in scenery. Along the way, you pass landmarks such as the Plassenburg Castle, the Rehberg and several traditional villages surrounding Kulmbach.
The route is named after Hans Edelmann, a local historian and nature enthusiast who dedicated much of his life to exploring and documenting the landscape and heritage of the Kulmbach area. The trail connects many of the paths and places that are closely associated with the landscape he studied.
For runners, it is a fantastic way to discover Kulmbach beyond the city centre: a scenic 32 km loop combining Franconian countryside, forests, viewpoints and local history – with enough elevation to make it a rewarding endurance run without being excessively mountainous.
Whether you are looking for a long training run, a scenic trail-running adventure or simply a different way to explore the region, the Edelmann-Ringweg offers a memorable tour around Kulmbach.
