Engineer Mountain (12,968 feet) is a fun 12er right off Highway 550 between Silverton and Durango. Park at Coal Bank Pass to access the trailhead. The route begins with very smooth, runnable switchbacks for a couple miles. Then turn left to begin the scramble up the ridgeline. There is one class 4 move up a chimney. Other than that, the scrambling is not too technical, though there is quite a bit of loose talus.
Engineer is in the book of classic Colorado scrambles, so it only makes sense for it to be an FKT. There is already an existing roundtrip Strava segment, so to get the FKT, you must beat the current men's/ women's times.
