This mainly off trail traverse is a Glacier National Park "Classic" The route starts at the Logan Pass visitors center and finishes at the Sperry Trailhead at Lake McDonald Lodge. Start by running up the board walk to the Hidden Lake Overlook. Once at the Overlook, descend the hikers trail to the foot of Hidden Lake. The earlier you can start the better as Hidden Lake is one of the most popular trails in the Park and you do not want to lose time dodging tourists. Cross Hidden Lake creek and continue on a social trail that hugs the shoreline of Hidden Lake. As you near the head of the lake the social trail will start to climb and spit you out in a high alpine basin. Look for rock cairns and aim for the small permanent snow field. Continue climbing up to the saddle above Hidden Lake. Make sure to look down the other side to see gorgeous views of Avalanche Lake. Traverse the ridgeline until you are clear of the krummholz on the south facing side and then descend down the scree field towards Lake Mary Baker. These are the best views in the Park in my opinion! Once past Lake Mary Baker, stay high and hug the mountain side as you climb up to Sperry Glacier. It's fastest to hug the foot of the Glacier instead of traversing through the moraine field. There are lots of glacial pools that you have to cut across if you go that way. Once past Sperry Glacier climb the rock ledges to Comeau Pass and then get ready for a ripping 9 mile, 4700 foot descent to Lake McDonald all on singletrack.
The views of Floral Park are awe inspiring. If done in late July the wildflowers around Lake Mary Baker will be popping, hence the name "Floral" Park.
