Description

Rocky Fork State Park is 2,076 acres of scenic wilderness in Unicoi County, in the southern Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee and is part of the Rocky Fork watershed.  It borders the Appalachian Trail near Devil's Fork and has about 20 miles of runnable trail with the park boundary.  The park is approximately 30 minutes from both Johnson City, TN and Asheville, NC, and 10 miles from Erwin, the county seat.  The Friends of Rocky Fork State Park have a challenge to hike all the trails within the park over any timeframe.  To hike or run all the trails consecutively in one effort, you have to do 2 or 3 out and back segments and 2 longer loops that share a common segment, which adds about 7 miles, so it is just over marathon distance.  It has approximately 5400 feet of climbing.  The loops and segments could be done in whichever order as long as the attempt begins and ends in the parking area/trail head and the distance totals at least 26.2 miles.  It can easily be done self-supported because the loops pass through the parking area.
