Description

According to Google, Galveston Island is about 43 km long.

However; if you start a little further out on each end of the island it can be up to 50km long.

For this specific route I decided to begin on the East side of the island and work my way to the West side. When finding the starting point, you can make your way to East Beach. From this point you walk about 0.8km (0.5 mile) towards Big Reef; following along the protected/roped off sections of that area. From there you begin your run; following along the blocked off sections until you make your way towards the entry booths. After that, you follow along Boddeker Rd until you hit the intersection of Boddeker Rd and Seawall Blvd. At this point you make a left and you follow along Seawall Blvd. You will see an East Beach sign as you make your way off Boddeker Rd and you will stay on the seawall for a while (I recommend running on the left side, against traffic). At some point the seawall will end (you will see a dead end up ahead) and you will need to veer off towards the right following along Termini-San Luis Pass Rd, also known as FM 3005. There will be a big building you can see from a distance that can be your visual marker (Nan and Company Properties - Galveston, TX).

The shoulder of this FM 3005 road will be very very narrow so please proceed with caution. I do recommend running against traffic for this section. I recommend wearing plenty of lights and reflective gear if running this route before sunrise/after sunset so that you are extremely visible to oncoming traffic. You will continue following along this road until you hit San Luis Pass Beach Access. This becomes a toll bridge that gets you to the other side of the island (where Galveston ends), you will need to get off the road and continue following along underneath the bridge. Run towards San Luis Beach and you have made it to the end. Enjoy the sand and the sun!
