Very punchy 7.23 mile loop in Geode State Park located in Des Moines County Iowa.
Single track trail that circumnavigates Lake Geode. 99 percent forest trail with some single track and rocky terrain. Beautiful trail that is well maintained through the Iowa DNR. Course isn’t flat at all, you are either descending or climbing around every corner. Constantly changing direction.
This route is one of the only local trails in the area that can imitate any type of climbing a person would see out east or west in the mountains. This course is a far cry from mountain running. But tackling 14 loops in one effort would be an achievement in its own right.
This route is a tough effort and doesn’t get the praise it should. Having an FKT route for this trail would be a big solid effort.
