The Golden Spoke trail is a series of interconnected paved walking, running and biking trails from Provo, UT to Ogden, UT. The trail is over 103 miles and has approximately 1,300' of elevation gain. It is the 2nd longest continuous paved trail in the US and is the longest west of the Mississippi. The trail starts at Vivian Park in Provo Canyon, passing by Bridal Veil Falls before opening up into the metropolitan Utah Valley area. For the first 30 miles you see Utah Lake to the West, Mount Timpanogos and the beautiful Wasatch mountains, before you pass over the Traverse Mountains and enter the Salt Lake Valley. A highlight of the route through the SL valley is running along the Jordan River for 35+ miles, which flows North from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake. In the last third of the trail you pass by the Great Salt Lake with amazing views of Antelope Island, the Great Salt Lake and more mountains. This route finishes running alongside the Ogden River and ends at the Ogden Canyon trailhead. With 42% of the entire state's population living within 3 miles of the trail, it is an easily spectated and supported route. The availability of food/water and cache areas means a self or unsupported effort for someone traveling from out of town would be fairly easy to plan. However, locals would likely want spectators since it is so easy to support a runner as it passes through four counties and 33 cities with multiple trailheads.
