(NOTE: There is another GR 38 in Basque Country, Spain)
The designation of this route makes a clear allusion to the supercontinent that existed during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras, when continental plates collided and formed the Appalachian Mountains, the Caledonian Mountains of Western Europe, the Iberian Massif and the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. The entire route is properly marked and includes interpretation panels of the landscape and other information panels (located at various points on the trail). The GR 38 - Grande Rota do Muradal - Pangeia includes a Via Ferrata and a climbing school with 15 routes for different difficulty levels.
