FKT Description — GR7 Spain: Andorra to Tarifa
The GR7 is one of the longest long-distance hiking trails in Spain and forms part of the European E4 route. The proposed itinerary begins at the Andorran border, at La Farga de Moles, and ends in Tarifa, the southernmost point of continental Europe. The full route covers approximately 1,900 km, crossing almost the entire country from north to south.
The GR7 runs through the following provinces and regions (from north to south):
-
Catalonia: Lleida, Tarragona
-
Valencian Community: Castellón, Valencia, Alicante
-
Murcia
-
Andalusia: AlmerÃa, Granada, Jaén, Córdoba, Málaga, Cádiz
Highlights of the route include crossing the Sierra Nevada (in the provinces of Granada and AlmerÃa), numerous natural parks, whitewashed villages, and emblematic mountain ranges (such as the Sierra de Grazalema, the Alpujarras, etc.).
Several variants exist along the GR7 depending on the section, local waymarking, or historical adaptations. This record attempt will follow the full documented GPS track corresponding to the most direct and consistent route from Andorra to Tarifa, prioritizing the official GR7 markings as currently recognized by Spanish hiking federations.
This trail connects the Pyrenees to the Strait of Gibraltar and represents one of Europe’s great challenges in foot-based ultra-endurance.
