The 207-km-long GR®96 heads toward Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, famous for its natural cirque and majestic waterfalls. The trail passes through Magland, Le Reposoir, and Entremont, where the landscape varies with steep-sided valleys and rushing rivers. La Balme-de-Thuy marks an important stop with its steep cliffs. Upon arriving in Annecy, a historic lakeside town often nicknamed the “Venice of the Alps,” hikers can enjoy the beauty of its canals and architecture. The trail then continues toward Leschaux, La Chapelle-Saint-Maurice, Le Chatelard, Lescheraines, Arith, Pugny-Chatenod, and Mouxy, two hilltop villages offering panoramic views of Lake Bourget. Finally, the GR®96 reaches Aix-les-Bains, a spa town renowned for its healing waters and rich historical heritage.
