The Grande Traversata del Gennargentu starts at the Church of Santa Maria della Neve, near Aritzo, crosses the highest mountain in Sardegna (the Gennargentu) and ends in Passo Correboi (signpost near the Ex Caserma), near Fonni.
The route is wild and there are no huts, but it is possible to find water along the course (or with relatively small deviations) depending on the season and, in case of emeergency, there are some "cuili" (small shpeherd's houses). You you will likely not meet anybody except around the summit. Navigation is definitely not trivial, specially on the first half: you often run without a clear track, and the tracks made by animals can be confusing. The second half offers easier terrain.
It is common to have strong winds, specially around the summit.
Not for the unexperienced, but definitely worth it for those who have some margin to be safe in this environment.
