Description

A rugged classic that looms high above Salt Lake City, Grandview Peak is a lengthy trail run involving a good amount of gain. Starting from Big Mountain Pass, the Great Western Trail switchbacks north heading toward the popular Big Mountain area. Less than a mile and a half, you get your first of many views of the pointed summit in the distance. The trail consists of mostly singletrack, with some doubletrack along the ridge between Big Mountain and the fork before Swallow Rocks. But don't assume it's going to be a walk in the park. Another trail fork takes visitors along a much less beaten path where the trail becomes quite narrow, technical, overgrown, and even disappears for short sections. Not for the inexperienced.

The views from the summit are as grand as the name would inspire in you imagination. Higher than nearby summits by a margin, it is a swell vantage point. Due to the distance and reputation of this trail, you're likely to see few people, if any beyond Swallow Rocks.
