Description

This route was inspired by and pays homage to the Great Western Loop! The Great Western Loop is the largest trail loop in the U.S.A. Well now it's neighbor to the north has a trail loop of its own. The Great Ontario Loop! At 402 miles with 34000 feet of elevation gain, it pales in comparison to the 6900 mile Great Western Loop. Nonetheless, it is still quite the challenge and is now Canada's largest trail loop!

The route takes place in Ontario and is a logistical dream since you can start anywhere on the loop and end exactly where you started. The route uses sections of 3 different trail systems that are all white blazed. Ganaraska Trail, Bruce Trail and Oak Ridges Trail. Each of these trail systems is unique. The Ganaraska is home to the toughest section of the loop, the dreaded Wilderness section. The Bruce is where you will do the most climbing on pristine trail. Oak ridges is where you will cruise on double track and unmaintained roads. Enjoy!
