Description

On the Harz Monastery Trail between Goslar and Halberstadt, the potential for relaxation for body, mind, and soul is superbly combined with cultural enjoyment at its finest. Like a string of pearls and in an unusually dense cluster, hikers and pilgrims experience a diverse landscape of monasteries and churches. No wonder: For centuries, the Harz monasteries have shaped the cultural and economic development of the Harz region. With seven stages ranging from 10 to 22 km and without significant elevation changes, hikers immerse themselves in the world of fragrant monastery gardens, Gothic cloisters, and fascinating churches, experiencing monasteries as event venues, museums, and distilleries, as special places of spirituality, and as gracious hosts. The river landscapes along the Oker, Ecker, and Bode rivers are particularly romantic, and the Devil's Wall near Blankenburg and Thale is magnificent. You'll experience the enchanting Schimmerwald forest, hike along the former inner-German border, past fish-filled monastery ponds, and gems of Romanesque church art.
