This route traverses the Sawtooth wilderness front range from Stanley lake to Alturas lake. It is a gorgeously rugged route. This route is not for the faint of heart and has sections requiring one to be comfortable in the deep backcountry. A lot of this route, especially deeper into the route, is very remote and you won’t see anyone. You will be starting at the Stanley lake trail #640 to Sawtooth lake. Then you drop out of the Stanley lake basin on the Nr. Fork Baron-Sawtooth lake trail #478. You then turn up Redfish creek-Baron creek trail #101 into the Baron lake basin and down the other side, then turning up Mt. Cramer trail # 154. Here you will crest over the Cramer divide (one of my favorite areas!) and down to Hidden lake turning left at the next junction to Edna lake. Then you’ll join Ardeth Lake trail #482 going past Vernon lake and then left on Ten Lake basin trail #463, up and over a ridge to Middle fork Boise river trail #460 passing Spangler lakes. After dropping down with amazing views of huge mountains and green valley floors you’ll turn left and climb up into the Flytrip creek basin on trail #461. This is not a well traveled trail. Once to Camp lake the trail ends and you head cross country staying above Heart lake but just below the 2 unnamed lakes above it, heading towards a large Boulder/scree field laying between Snowyside peak to the left and an unnamed peak to the right (2nd to last pic). This will lead you to the low ridge in the basin (last pic). From here you will descend the ridge following a light trail going down the right side (easy to see which way to go). You’ll head to the left lake of the 2 large ones visible, and go around that lake on the left side. You will then see a light traveled trail following a stream taking you down steep pitches to Alpine creek trail #094 to the Trail head to finish your epic journey!
