Description

This walk leaves Heathfield by the path beside the antique shop called “The Greenhouse”. This path goes downhill to the old railway station from there the walk continues to the Cuckoo Trail. The Cuckoo Trail is followed for a short distance to Sandy Cross. From Sandy Cross the walk goes through Sapperton Wood which has many wild flowers in spring and then continues through meadows to Hidden Spring Vineyard. More meadows with wild flowers and butterflies are passed through before Swansbrook Lane is joined. This quiet lane is followed for about a mile to the hamlet of Gun Hill. From Gun Hill part of the Wealdway is followed passing through Hale Farm Campsite before arriving at Chiddingly. Leaving Chiddingly along the Vanguard Way it is not long before the quiet Dern Lane is joined. The verges of this lane are full of spring flowers. Arriving at Horam the Cuckoo Trail is then followed back to Heathfield.
