Overview

This reversed Hermannslauf Double runs the entire historic Hermannslauf course from Bielefeld to Detmold and back, starting and finishing at Sparrenburg Castle.
The full route is completed twice in one continuous effort: Sparrenburg → Hermannsdenkmal → Sparrenburg.

The GPX follows the official Hermannslauf trail and stays strictly on the original path without deviations.

Segment 1 — Sparrenburg → Hermannsdenkmal (km 0–~30.4)

The run begins at Sparrenburg Castle and follows the classic Hermannslauf trail eastward along the ridge of the Teutoburger Wald.

Key landmarks along the way:

  • Forest sections around Bielefelder Pass

  • Technical ridgeline trails toward Oerlinghausen

  • Reitlager Quellen

  • Donoper Teich

  • Heath landscape of Hiddeser Bent

The first half ends with the climb to the Hermannsdenkmal, the mandatory turnaround point.

Distance first leg: ~30.37 km
Elevation gain first leg: ~650 m

Segment 2 — Hermannsdenkmal → Sparrenburg (km ~30.4–60.74)

The return leg is an exact retracing of the same Hermannslauf trail.

You descend from the Hermannsdenkmal back through:

  • Hiddeser Bent

  • Donoper Teich

  • Reitlager Quellen

  • Forest trails around Oerlinghausen

  • The final climb toward Sparrenburg Castle

Finish is at the identical starting point at Sparrenburg.
